The march was fuelled by what community leaders say is an uptick in crime on their streets, making it an unsafe environment for residents and business owners.“Last year I was assaulted on this very spot, by someone coming on these steps, I almost got my arm broken, fortunately, I didn’t. My heart broke,” said Phil Parsons, a community leader who says much of the blame for the situation lies with elected officials. He’s calling on all levels of government to step in. “They tell us we need more money, yet they have money for all kinds of other things in the city,” he says. “They tell us it’s not our jurisdiction, they blame another party, agency, or the Liberal government.
