NEW YORK (AP) — “Koresh: The True story of David Koresh and the Tragedy at Waco,” by Stephan Talty (Mariner Books)Thirty years ago, on April 19, 1993, after a 51-day siege by federal agents, the Branch Davidian complex in Waco erupted in flames, leading to the deaths of 76 people. The murky circumstances and conflicting accounts about the siege and how it ended have led to decades of lore and misinformation. Several projects timed around the 30th anniversary aim to revisit the events of the seige, including a Netflix documentary “Waco: American Apocolypse” and a Showtime dramatized series “Waco: The Aftermath.” In his book, Talty goes further back to trace the Branch Davidian movement from the beginning and examine the life of Koresh himself.Born Vernon Wayne Howell in 1959, Koresh was an unhappy and abused child who became obsessed with the bible and thought he heard the voice of God. As an adult, he increasingly took control of an existing sect of the Seventh Day Adventists called ...Burrow, Bengals begin offseason workouts

The school, with its 485 students in grades 6-12, is central to community life in Dadeville, population 3,200, where “Home of the Tigers” is painted on the water tower and local businesses sport signs proclaiming “This is Tiger Country.”Investigators were still trying to piece together what happened at the party, where numerous gunshots left the dance studio’s windows pocked with bullet holes. While police sought clues, others said they were tending the community’s heart.“It’s going to be a tough time for g...12-year-old describes group’s rescue from water diversion tunnel in Auburn

After the incident, one of the children involved spoke with 7NEWS, describing the rescue and explaining how she and her friends ended up stuck. “It was kind of just all of a sudden,” 12-year-old Genevieve Robare said. “Like, one second, we’re just walking, and then the next we’re calling the police.”Robare and others in the group began walking along hiking trails at a local recreation complex. They eventually found themselves wading through waist-deep chilly water, venturing into a diversion tunnel in an area near Curtis Road. “We were really cold,” Robare said. “We were going numb. CLEVELAND — The players won’t say it. The coach certainly won’t.But because of the circumstances elsewhere in the East, the Knicks’ first-round series suddenly feels a little more important. Before Giannis Antetokounmpo fell on his back Sunday, Knicks-Cavs was viewed as a matchup to determine who lost to the Bucks in the conference semis. It was the logical take since the Bucks, who finished with the NBA’s best record, were the betting favorites to win their second title in three years. Those odds shifted Sunday when Antetokounmpo suffered a bruised lower back and Milwaukee was pummeled by the Heat in Game 1.There’s reportedly “optimism” Antetotokounmpo will return for Game 2 on Wednesday, but it’s an injury that requires patience, maintenance with the potential for physical struggles. The Heat, meanwhile, represent a lively eighth seed even with Antetokounmpo at full strength. And the Knicks, who won their regular season series aga...Latest news
