Ask Amy: It’s not fair that my rent doesn’t buy me any extras

Dear Amy: I’m in my early 20s and living at home. I’m paying my parents rent, but the money I pay doesn’t include anything else – just the room. This doesn’t seem fair to me, and I’d really appreciate hearing what you think of this.– Renter at HomeDear Renter: You’ve just described … rent. When you rent, you pay the owner of the dwelling for the roof over your head. That’s all. When you’re a child, your parents provide all of the extras. When you’re an adult, having someone else do the cooking, cleaning and laundry is what happens at a hotel.Once you accept this reality, you should do some research to see if you are able to afford rent and living expenses elsewhere. You may find that – even without the extras – you are benefiting from the lower cost of living at home. Many young people use this transition period at home as a way to aggressively save money toward the higher cost of living elsewhere.Dear Amy: About two years ago, I messaged “Bradley” on social media. DEAR HARRIETTE: I learned that a friend of mine started a business that is eerily similar to my own.We haven’t spoken in over a year, but I thought that was mainly due to COVID-19 and just being busy with life. Now I see that she is launching a business that is a direct competitor to mine, and I am upset.I don’t know that there’s anything legal that I can do about it, but I feel betrayed. She and I spent hours at a time for years talking about my business, as I thought she was my friend. Now I see many of my ideas in action through her promotional materials.I want to address this with her, but I am not even sure what to say. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea canceled its planned launch Wednesday of its first commercial-grade satellite due to a technical issue, days after rival North Korea reaffirmed its push to place its first military spy satellite into orbit. The cancellation was announced about two hours before South Korea’s homegrown Nuri space launch vehicle carrying eight satellites — including the main, commercial-grade one — was scheduled to lift off from a southern launch facility.Oh Tae-seok, the first vice-minister of science, told a televised news conference a communication anomaly between the launch control computer and the launch pad control computer was found during the launch preparation process. He said South Korea will consider rescheduling the launch as soon as Thursday, if authorities fix the technical problem early.South Korea’s satellite launch plan has been closely watched by outsiders. (CNN) — Netflix is officially beginning its crackdown on users who share passwords in the United States. The streaming video company on Tuesday said it is now sending out emails to all US subscribers who share passwords with people outside their household, as part of a long planned move to limit password sharing.“Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with — your household,” the email reads, along with options on how to share the account. To share an account with someone outside a household, a user can transfer a profile to a new membership that they pay for or else add an extra member to their account for an additional $7.99 monthly fee.Netflix previously turned a blind eye to password sharing because it was fueling growth. However, last year it said that it was going to crack down on password sharing because it hurts its bottom line. It has previously estimated that more than 100 million households worldwide share an account. The company started to clamp down on pass...Unsettled Pattern Continues

The unsettled pattern continues for South Florida through the end of the week due to a low over Central Florida and a stalled out front across Northern Florida. Therefore, scattered showers and storms are possible late this morning and will become more numerous this afternoon and evening. A few strong to severe storms are possible, with damaging wind gusts and hail being the primary threats. Heavy rainfall in some areas could also lead street flooding, in spots. Heading into the long weekend, changes will take place and models are showing it is likely going to be nicer. As low pressure pulls away off the Florida East coast and front slides South through the region, drier air builds in. This will would make for a Summer-like weekend with a passing shower on the breeze early followed by afternoon isolated inland storms. Have a wonderful day South Florida and make it a safe one!
