Man arrested following 'random' violent assault in Baldwin Park

A suspect seen on video punching a man in Baldwin Park last month was arrested over the weekend, authorities said.The incident occurred around 7:23 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, at Lubican Street near Merced Avenue, according to the surveillance video posted to the Baldwin Park Police Department's Instagram page and the BPPD's Lt. Leon.The video showed the victim walking past a parked vehicle when the suspect, identified by police as Manuel Alejandro Valenzuela, jumped out of the passenger side of the vehicle and punched him in the head. The victim quickly got up and was punched again by the attacker as he was putting his hat back on. The victim didn't go down after the second punch and put his hands up in an apparent attempt to defend himself from any further attacks when the video cuts off. Prosecutors announced Monday that they plan to seek the death penalty for Jesse Ceazar Navarro, who allegedly shot and killed Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Darnell Calhoun in Lake Elsinore earlier this year.The Jan. 13 shooting in the 18500 block of Hilldale Lane killed the 30-year-old Calhoun. Navarro also fired at another deputy who came to Calhoun's aid, prosecutors said in a news release. A man who was wanted for attempted kidnapping and human trafficking was arrested in La Cañada Flintridge Sunday morning, officials said.Around 8:50 a.m. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies were alerted of a felony suspect through a public safety operating system named Flock Safety.The vehicle and the driver were apparently wanted in connection with the attempted kidnapping and trafficking case, officials said.A deputy spotted the vehicle and requested back up. A 51-year-old Woodside man faces two counts of vehicular manslaughter and other charges after allegedly driving drunk and crashing his car on Highway 35, a fiery wreck that killed his two friends, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said.James Morton Worthington and his two friends, Henry Keating and Josh McGuigan, had dinner and drinks at Alice’s restaurant on Skyline Boulevard in Woodside on June 21 before the three men got into Worthington’s sedan at about about 5:30 p.m., according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.Worthington drove off on Highway 35 and allegedly traveled at high speeds on the winding mountain road.
